Borough President Vanessa Gibson allocated $56.3 million in fiscal year 2027 capital funds for Bronx education, healthcare, and neighborhood upgrades, including $2 million for a cardiac catheterization facility at Lincoln Hospital, $1 million for the Bronx Zoo and Botanical Garden, and millions for educational technology and affordable housing projects.

The Bronx’s Female Fight Club, founded by Johanna Edmondson in 2020, provides an all-female fitness community offering classes like kickboxing, Zumba, and strength training. The club expands beyond fitness to support women’s mental health, domestic violence awareness, and empowerment through workshops and events.

A Parkchester street was renamed Didarul Islam Way to honor NYPD Detective Didarul Islam, killed in a 2025 Midtown shooting. The ceremony, attended by family and officials, included the unveiling of a street sign and the Didarul Islam Police Recruitment Act, signed by Governor Kathy Hochul.
