On July 25, 1972, the Tuskegee Syphilis Study was exposed after The Associated Press revealed that the U.S. Public Health Service and Tuskegee Institute had allowed poor, rural Black male patients with syphilis to go untreated for four decades, resulting in over 100 deaths as part of a study on the disease.
