Sumner County Schools in Tennessee delayed the first day of school from August 4 to August 10 due to a security breach involving unauthorized access to the school system’s network. The Tennessee Bureau of Investigation, FBI, and Homeland Security are investigating the incident.

The Sumner County School Board approved a $424 million budget for the upcoming school year, but the county commission has not yet approved it, forcing the district to operate under last year's spending limits. Disagreement among commissioners centers on the appropriate budget increase, with some advocating for maintenance of effort and others supporting a 2-2.5% adjustment. The budget is expected to be revisited on July 21, with leaders confident it will ultimately pass before state restrictions take effect in August.

Sumner County Schools are considering adding a lacrosse program, with discussions focusing on ensuring enough players and methods to implement the sport. The school board proposed feeder programs in elementary and middle schools and explored co-op teams involving multiple schools.
