In response to a rise in crowd-related incidents, including a large brawl near Willits and Bates streets, the Birmingham Police Department is increasing patrols downtown. This security boost has been met with support from local businesses and residents who feel concerned about safety, particularly on Old Woodward Avenue. Additionally, the Birmingham Fire Department will be involved by conducting random occupancy inspections.
