- Wayne County voters to decide fate of countywide transit in primary millage
Wayne County voters will decide in August on a proposed 10-year millage to fund public transportation via SMART, which would expand services into previously opted-out suburbs and replace an expiring millage. The Michigan Legislature removed the opt-out rule in 2024, requiring some suburbs to pay for transit for the first time, with an estimated $8 monthly tax for a $200,000 home.
