Kenyans are shifting savings from money market funds (MMFs) to special funds as MMF yields decline. MMFs' market share dropped from over 90% to 51.9% of CIS assets between 2021 and March 2026, while special funds grew from 6% to 23.9% of total CIS assets. Special funds target annual returns of 18–25%, compared to MMFs' 8–11%.
