- Mexico resumes livestock sales to US under tight controls over screwworm risk
The U.S. is set to resume livestock imports from Mexico starting August 24 at the Douglas, Arizona border crossing, concluding a yearlong ban imposed over concerns regarding the New World screwworm fly. Although the reopening brings relief to the cattle industries on both sides, new USDA controls will temper initial optimism by limiting daily shipments and requiring specialized screenings, such as radio-frequency identification tags.
