Shi'ite armed groups

The U.S. and Saudi Arabia have targeted Iran-backed Shi'ite armed groups in Iraq, which they accuse of conducting drone attacks on Saudi oil facilities. These groups hold significant political and military influence in Iraq, stemming from Iran's growing presence in Iraqi affairs after the 2003 U.S.-led invasion that removed Saddam Hussein.

US and Saudi airstrikes targeted Iraqi pro-Iran militias, resulting in 20 reported deaths and 32 injuries among the groups. The Iranian Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) has renewed attacks on US forces, while Tehran rejected an Omani proposal to jointly manage the Hormuz Strait.
