University of Central Florida students and faculty are excavating the DeSoto site at Cape Canaveral Space Force Station, uncovering ancient artifacts from the Malabar II Period. The site contains black earth midden deposits with remnants of daily tasks, including food preparation and refuse. Archaeologists have found various items, such as pottery sherds, tools, and food remains, including shark and seafood.
