- Three factors in midlife can delay the onset of dementia by 13 years
Avoiding smoking, diabetes, and high blood pressure in midlife can delay dementia onset by 12.6 years, according to a 26-year study of 12,000 adults. Participants who avoided all three risks gained significantly more dementia-free years compared to those who experienced all three, with incremental benefits from avoiding one or two risks.
