The Tamil Nadu government has ordered the cancellation of Scheduled Tribe (ST) certificates issued outside notified areas for the Kanikkaran/Kanikkar community. A 2005 government order states that a district's Revenue Authority cannot issue ST certificates for individuals belonging to another district.
