- ‘He went under 3 or 4 times’: Artist rescues 10-year-old boy from drowning at Belle Isle fishing dock
A 10-year-old boy nearly drowned at Belle Isle fishing dock after falling into deep water, but was rescued by Rashaun Rucker, a Detroit-based artist and art teacher, who used a fishing net to pull him to safety. The child’s 12-year-old brother also tried to help, while their neighbor Angela Briscoe, who was supervising the children, was unable to assist due to her inability to swim. Both boys are recovering, and Rucker and Briscoe are planning to take water safety lessons.
