Gilgit-Baltistan Chief Election Commissioner Raja Shahbaz Khan announced decisions on three pending election petitions, awarding the PPP 11 seats. The PML-N secured six seats, independent candidates (now aligned with IPP) won four, PTI-backed candidates two, and MWM one. The HRCP expressed concerns over abrupt changes to re-polling decisions and electoral process integrity.

The Gilgit-Baltistan Election Commission postponed local bodies polls from August 2 to September 27, 2026, to avoid clashing with Muharram and Chehlum of Imam Hussain. The nomination scrutiny date was extended to August 10, 2026, and the elections will cover 1,343 wards with candidates required to be at least 25 years old and affiliated with a party.

The Chief Election Commissioner of Gilgit-Baltistan stated that finalizing election results is taking time but will be completed within 14 days as per law. Nine petitions related to the elections are under review, and Form 49 has been issued for some constituencies. The PPP and PML-N are disagreeing on forming the GB government, with the PPP claiming a majority based on unofficial results.

Gilgit-Baltistan will hold legislative assembly elections on Sunday for 24 constituencies after a four-month delay due to winter weather. The PPP and other parties have campaigned actively, with 396 candidates including 266 independents and eight women contesting. The GB Election Commission reported 958,480 registered voters, and election authorities emphasized transparency and adherence to electoral laws.

The Gilgit-Baltistan Election Commission prohibited all election-related activities 48 hours before the June 7 legislative assembly elections, enforcing a ban on rallies, gatherings, and canvassing. Security measures and logistical arrangements were confirmed to ensure free, fair, and peaceful polling, with officials emphasizing compliance with election laws.
