- Michigan could approve a constitutional convention this year. What would that mean?
Michigan voters will decide in 2026 whether to approve a constitutional convention (Proposal 1), which would trigger delegate elections in 2026. Delegates would convene in 2027 to draft a new state constitution, requiring voter approval in a subsequent election. The current Michigan Constitution, adopted in 1963, would remain in effect unless replaced.
