- Philadelphia should do more to help unhoused people during heat waves, advocates say
Advocates warn that unhoused Philadelphians face increased danger during heat waves, which are fueled by climate change. The Good Works Coalition called for the city to establish 24/7 “heat respite-and-navigation” sites and improve shelter conditions, urging resources be provided during extreme heat similar to winter cold emergencies. City officials stated they are evaluating best practices but also noted that efforts have been made to increase available shelter beds.
