A coalition of farmers and environmental groups has submitted a formal objection urging Malaysia’s National Biosafety Board to reject a proposed field trial of genetically modified MR219 rice variety by Zen Cropscience. The groups are concerned about potential contamination through cross-pollination, the risk posed by glyphosate use, and insufficient legal protection for affected farmers.
