Official marking of land for Brazil’s uncontacted Kawahiva people begins after 27-year wait

The Brazilian government has begun demarcating the Pardo River Kawahiva Indigenous territory to protect the uncontacted Kawahiva people from farming, illegal mining and logging. The demarcation of the 410,000-hectare territory was confirmed by the National Indigenous Peoples’ Foundation. This move comes after a 27-year wait for the community.
