- Popular daily drinking habit could nearly triple risk of deadly cancer, major study finds
A major study found that consuming a sugary drink daily could nearly triple the risk of gastric cancer compared with fewer than one serving per month. The research analyzed data from over 100,000 participants and suggested that higher fructose consumption was associated with greater stomach cancer risk. However, artificial sweeteners were not linked to an increased risk, and researchers noted the study only showed correlation, not direct causation.
