Meteorologists at Colorado State University have reduced their 2026 Atlantic hurricane season forecast from six hurricanes and two major hurricanes to four hurricanes and one major hurricane, citing a developing El Niño. The National Hurricane Center is monitoring two low-probability tropical development areas: a weak low-pressure system near the Northeast Gulf and Southeast coast (20% chance) and a tropical wave off Africa (10% chance).
