The UN reports a human rights catastrophe in Sudan's al-Obeid, with the human rights chief warning of atrocities. The conflict between Sudan's army and the Rapid Support Forces (RSF) in North Kordofan state has caused a humanitarian crisis.

The Rapid Support Forces have launched a strategic and methodical siege of El Obeid, Sudan's North Kordofan State capital, using drones to target fuel stations and electrical generators. This has caused severe hardship for civilians, including 100,000 to 200,000 internally displaced persons, forcing many to evacuate the city.

Seven European countries have urged Sudan's Rapid Support Forces (RSF) to immediately halt their assault on El-Obeid in North Kordofan state. The countries warned of credible signs of an imminent major offensive, as civilians face worsening shortages of food, water, and fuel.

The UN's top human rights official has warned that an impending offensive against El Obeid, the capital of Sudan's North Kordofan state, risks serious international crimes and exacerbating a humanitarian crisis. The official urged an immediate halt to the violence.

Drones attacks in North Kordofan State between 6 and 8 June 2026 killed at least 18 civilians and wounded dozens more, according to the Darfur Network for Human Rights. The attacks targeted a market, villages, civilian vehicles, and a fuel station, carried out by the Rapid Support Forces (RSF) and Sudanese Armed Forces (SAF).

Sudan's Finance Minister Dr. Gebreil Ibrahim signed a $51 million agreement with the African Development Bank (AfDB) and UNICEF to restructure stalled water projects into an emergency water and sanitation initiative for Port Sudan and North and South Kordofan states.
