China is constructing powerful optical telescopes on Saishiteng Mountain in Qinghai's Tibetan plateau to create the world's largest astronomy base by the mid-2030s. The telescopes, ranging from 6.5 to 14.5 meters in diameter, are led by Deng Licai of the National Astronomical Observatories of China.
