A 17-year-old female student was stabbed multiple times in the leg and arm outside El Puente Academy for Peace and Justice in Brooklyn on June 9. The victim was treated for non-critical injuries at NYU Langone-Cobble Hill Hospital, and police recovered a weapon at the scene. One person is in custody, though details about the suspect's identity or motive remain unclear.

NYC public schools will not face budget cuts next year, with funding remaining steady or potentially increasing despite a 10% enrollment drop over six years. Mayor Zohran Mamdani and Chancellor Kamar Samuels emphasized maintaining or boosting financial support to ensure stability for students and educators.

Applications for free early childcare and education for 2-year-olds in select New York City neighborhoods have opened. Parents and guardians of children born in 2024 can apply for the fall semester until June 26 via the MySchools website, phone, or in person at a Family location.
