- State budget bill includes $25M for Military World Games venue improvements, athlete housing
The N.C. General Assembly is considering a supplementary budget bill allocating $25 million for the 2027 Military World Games in Charlotte. Funds include $17.5 million for venue improvements administered by the N.C. Department of Commerce and $7.5 million for UNC Charlotte to cover on-campus competition venues and athlete housing. The event, scheduled for June 25 through July 4, 2027, will be hosted by Charlotte, the first U.S. city to be selected for the quadrennial international competition.
- Mecklenburg County approves Capital Group incentives
Mecklenburg County approved an $18.8 million incentives package for The Capital Group Cos. Inc., including property tax rebates from the county and city, and a job development grant from the state. The county's contribution includes a 50% rebate over three years, while Charlotte offers a 90% rebate over five years, with $17.2 million from the state over 12 years.
