    NASA ends MAVEN mission after Mars orbiter goes silent

    NASA has ended the Mars Atmosphere and Volatile Evolution (MAVEN) orbiter mission after losing contact with the spacecraft nearly six months ago. The agency confirmed all systems were functioning normally before MAVEN passed behind Mars in December, but its Deep Space Network failed to reestablish communication.
