A coalition of unions and advocacy groups filed a lawsuit challenging the Trump administration's plan to implement new visa time restrictions for foreign students, journalists, and exchange visitors. The proposed Department of Homeland Security rule sets fixed periods of admission—such as limiting F status students to four years or I status journalists to 240 days. DHS dismissed the suit, arguing the changes are necessary to root out fraud and allow immigration officials to assess compliance.
