    'Every step off an authorized trail carries weight': Social trails at Horsetooth Mtn Open Space are dismantled

    Two unauthorized social trails at Horsetooth Mountain Open Space in Larimer County, Colorado, are closed and undergoing restoration after causing ecological damage. The Larimer County Department of Natural Resources (LCDNR) spent 160 hours dismantling the trails, which could lead to charges if builders are identified. Similar trail closures are occurring in Avon’s West Avon Preserve to protect natural resources.
