- University of Michigan will switch to pass/fail grades for most first-semester students
As part of a pilot program starting fall 2027, many first-semester freshmen at the University of Michigan will receive either “pass” or “no credit” instead of letter grades. This change aims to help students acclimate and curb the mental health crisis among college-aged individuals by reducing academic pressure. Experts believe de-emphasizing grades could allow students to explore subjects and build confidence without the stress of achieving perfect academic milestones.
