Starting August 1, Colorado requires a 12-hour safety course and eligibility card for purchasing certain semiautomatic guns. El Paso County Sheriff Joseph Roybal has opted not to impose an additional fee for residents applying under the new law, which includes background checks and a $52 fee to Colorado Parks and Wildlife.
