Suburban poverty is affecting millions of senior citizens in the US, with roughly half of seniors living in suburban-style communities and facing isolation due to lack of transit, housing, and services. The problem is large and likely undercounted, with senior poverty rising in over 800 counties in the past five years. An estimated 11-15% of seniors live in poverty, translating to roughly three million to five million older adults in suburban areas.
