Accelerated human-caused global warming and El Niño have created punishing droughts across Europe, severely damaging crops from Dutch potatoes to Bosnian corn. The adverse weather conditions are hitting agriculture hard, leading some estimates to suggest the drought could reduce the European Union's gross domestic product by 1% for 2026. Farmers in multiple countries face significantly reduced yields and struggle against extreme heat and lack of water.
