- World chess chief steps aside after EU sanctions
Arkady Dvorkovich, Russia’s deputy prime minister and president of the International Chess Federation (FIDE), suspended his duties after the European Union sanctioned him for actions undermining Ukraine’s territorial integrity. Dvorkovich called the sanctions 'unlawful and unfair' and stated he would remain suspended until EU and Swiss sanctions are lifted. FIDE Deputy President Viswanathan Anand will assume his duties.
