    Diné community leaders protest Trump proposal to remove Chaco Canyon mining ban

    Diné community leaders and allotment shareholders are protesting a Trump administration proposal to revoke a 2023 Bureau of Land Management (BLM) order that banned oil and gas extraction near New Mexico’s Chaco Culture National Historical Park. The BLM is reviewing public comments on a draft environmental assessment to potentially lift the 20-year ban on mineral leasing in a 338,000-acre buffer zone surrounding the culturally significant site.
