    Magnitude 7.8 quake strikes Philippines, tsunami warning issued

    An earthquake of magnitude 7.8 struck off Mindanao in the southern Philippines, prompting tsunami warnings from the Philippines, Japan, and Indonesia. The German Research Centre for Geosciences (GFZ) reported the quake at a depth of 10km, with no immediate reports of major damage. The US Tsunami Warning System also issued a tsunami threat.
