- Washington high court finds state university can be held liable over hazing death
The Washington Supreme Court ruled 5-4 that Washington State University owed a duty of care to a freshman who died from alcohol poisoning during a fraternity hazing event in 2019. The court found the university had a special relationship with the Gamma Chi fraternity, which benefited from institutional support and faced rules prohibiting underage drinking, despite repeated violations.
