- Another Montrose Beach Piping Plover Chick Dies
A piping plover chick named Tweedy at Montrose Beach in Chicago has died, marking the second chick death in a week. The chick, one of four hatched in June, faced challenging weather conditions that may have contributed to its death. The remaining siblings, named after Chicago music legends, include Buddy and Frankie, while another sibling, Mavis, died on June 29.
- Rescuers save injured coyote from deep marsh on Long Island
An injured coyote was rescued from a thick marsh nearly four feet deep in Saint James, Long Island. Frankie, a member of the nonprofit Strong Island Animal Rescue League, used a catch pole to keep the coyote's head above water during the rescue. The coyote is now in recovery.
