Broward commissioners are considering bringing the county’s fire rescue department under direct county control after nearly 25 years of operation under the Broward Sheriff’s Office (BSO). Commissioners voted to place this issue on the September 22 meeting agenda, where they will begin discussions regarding the possible transition. The board granted a 30-day review window to allow commissioners time to evaluate the proposal.

Pompano Beach commissioners plan to finalize a $71 million contract with the Broward Sheriff’s Office (BSO) to handle law enforcement, citing cost and access to specialized resources. The contract includes a 5% annual rate increase cap and a 90-day termination clause for both parties.
