Gov. Tim Walz authorized emergency assistance for multiple Minnesota counties—including Becker, Crow Wing, Fillmore, Houston, Mower, and Winona—which suffered damage from severe storms between June 28 and July 8. The aid is intended to help rebuild critical public infrastructure damaged by the devastating events, which included flash flooding and tornadoes.

Smoke from wildfires in the northwest U.S. and Utah is visible in southern Colorado. Fires near Spokane, Washington have destroyed 600 homes and structures, while another fire in Idaho and Oregon threatens over 1,400 structures. The Widemouth 2 Fire in Utah is the largest active fire in the state.

An earthquake with a preliminary magnitude of 3.5 occurred in the mountains of Ventura County on Saturday afternoon, according to officials. The U.S. Geological Survey reported the quake struck at 12:21 p.m., with an epicenter 9.4 miles northwest of Fillmore at a depth of 14.9 miles, and there were no initial reports of damage.

Suspects were arrested following a grand theft investigation in Fillmore, where deputies seized thousands in stolen property, identity theft-related items, drugs, and illegal firearms. The operation began on April 10 when Ventura County Sheriff's Office deputies made contact with a suspect.

Fillmore, a 3-year-old German short-haired pointer, saved his Tustin family from a garage fire by barking relentlessly to alert them. The heroic dog's actions are credited with preventing potential harm to the family.
