Europe recorded over 10,000 excess deaths during a late-June heatwave, with more than 9,000 deaths among people aged 65 and above, according to EuroMOMO data. The heatwave caused extreme weather linked to heatstroke and worsened cardiovascular and respiratory conditions.

Three people, including two crew members, were medically evacuated from the MV Hondius due to a suspected hantavirus outbreak, which has killed at least three passengers. The ship is sailing to the Canary Islands, where Spanish authorities will examine and treat the crew and passengers. The evacuation allows the ship to continue its journey.
