Ancient shipwreck gives up dazzling treasures after more than 1,300 years underwater

Archaeologists examined an ancient shipwreck near the Croatian island of Mljet, dating to the late 7th or early 8th century A.D. The discovery yielded over 600 grams of gold coins issued by four emperors of the Heraclian dynasty, marking the largest amount recovered from a Mediterranean wreck. Additional findings included elaborate jewelry and evidence suggesting that a wealthy passenger was aboard.
