Colorado Department of Education officials discovered that Riverstone Academy, a public school in Pueblo County, was operated by a Christian group and used religious curriculum after it received a public school code. Despite internal warnings and the state constitution's ban on religious public schools, officials did not block the school's operations until after it publicly declared itself 'Colorado’s first public Christian school.' The school closed in May due to new legislative restrictions, not its religious status.

The Republican National Committee and two Colorado officials sued Secretary of State Jena Griswold, alleging that Colorado's policy allowing overseas U.S. citizens to register based on family residency violates the state constitution. The lawsuit targets guidance enabling voters under the Uniformed and Overseas Citizens Absentee Voting Act to register if their parent, spouse, or partner previously lived in Colorado, arguing residency cannot be established by proxy.
