The remains of Shawn Dixon, a man missing from Caon City since September 2023, were found near Skyline Drive by hikers on July 19. Law enforcement is investigating his death, with the cause pending autopsy results, and seeks public assistance through CrimeStoppers.

The Aspen Acres Fire has destroyed hundreds of structures and displaced thousands, prompting local agencies to accept donations. Fremont County Emergency Management, Pathfinder Park, and Care and Share are accepting specific items at designated locations. Donations include animal supplies, food, and safety equipment.

Several southern Colorado cities, including Colorado Springs, Pueblo, Caon City, and Manitou Springs, are under Stage II Fire Restrictions. Prohibited activities include outdoor fires, fireworks, and certain recreational and mechanical activities.
