A Brooklyn man was arrested on federal arson charges for allegedly burning down the historic South Bushwick Reformed Church in Bushwick on June 19. The incident devastated the local community.

New legislation introduced by Council Member Jennifer Gutiérrez aims to increase trash pickup in New York City neighborhoods with concentrated nightlife, including areas like Bushwick and venues such as the Brooklyn Mirage and Brooklyn Monarch. The measure targets areas with numerous bars to address waste management issues.

FDNY firefighters rescued a downed colleague while battling a three-alarm fire in Bushwick, which spread across three wood-frame buildings. A lithium-ion battery was removed from the scene by a hazmat team, and the fire was controlled within an hour of arrival. No injuries were reported, though the cause remains under investigation.
