Germany's Major General Michael Traut, commander of the Bundeswehr Space Command, warned that Russia may be developing the ability to detonate a nuclear weapon in low-Earth orbit, which could destroy a third of LEO satellites and cause a catastrophic debris cascade known as the Kessler syndrome.

Germany’s top military space commander warns Russia may be developing technology to place nuclear warheads in space, which could cripple satellite services and render parts of orbit unusable for decades. Germany is enhancing its space defense strategy, including acquiring jammers, lasers, inspection satellites, and a sovereign military satellite communications system.
