North Carolina is suing Brenntag Mid-South for discharging toxic chemicals into a creek near Burton Park, a public park in a predominantly Black neighborhood, which flows into a major drinking water supply. The state alleges violations of water quality laws and demands a cleanup plan within 30 days.

North Carolina has sued Brenntag, a chemical company, over pollution in a nearby creek. The city of Durham has fined Brenntag $157,000 since 2023 for water contamination involving substances like acetone, ethanol, 1,4-dioxane, and mucilaginous goo.
