Boundary Waters Canoe Area (BWCA)

Wildfires have burned over 77,000 acres in northern Minnesota and parts of Canada, with 19 active fires mostly uncontained. Rainfall temporarily slowed the fires but was accompanied by 13,000 lightning strikes, creating new ignition points. Officials called the conditions 'unprecedented' for Minnesota, citing extreme heat and dryness, while over 500 firefighters and 6,000–10,000 evacuees are involved.
