Border Security Force

The Border Security Force (BSF) is considering a 90-km fence in the Sundarbans mangrove forests along the Indo-Bangladesh border to prevent infiltration. The proposal highlights tensions between security measures and ecological concerns.

The Sundarbans, a marshy region, will soon be fenced for the first time. The Border Security Force (BSF) will expedite the work with other government departments, though 71 km of the border is contiguous with the Sundarbans Wildlife Sanctuary, a protected area where construction is prohibited.

Security forces, including Assam Rifles, Border Security Force, and Manipur Police, launched a large-scale search operation in Manipur's Nungshang area after two Assam Rifles personnel were killed. The operation began on July 10.

Amit Shah will review Manipur's security situation on July 4 with officials including Security Adviser Kuldiep Singh, State Director General of Police Mukesh Singh, DGMO, and representatives from Assam Rifles, CRPF, and BSF. Manipur's Chief Minister Yumnam Khemchand Singh is not part of the meeting but is expected to visit Churachandpur, marking the first such visit since the 2023 violence.

Bangladesh and India agreed to enhance border cooperation through coordinated patrols and intelligence sharing amid tensions over undocumented migration. The joint statement highlights efforts to address illegal crossings and strengthen border security, with both nations reaffirming commitments to stability along their 4,000-kilometre border.
