Bijou Street

Part of South Academy Boulevard in Colorado Springs will close for the weekend to install a water line and complete paving. The ongoing $100 million project aims to upgrade the boulevard, including utility lines and intersections, but has caused temporary traffic disruptions and adjustments for nearby businesses.

A collision between a Bustang bus and a fire truck in downtown Colorado Springs injured four firefighters and five bus passengers. The crash occurred at the intersection of Tejon and Bijou streets around 10 a.m. as the fire truck responded to a medical call. The fire engine, Engine 3, was totaled, and 21 fire department personnel responded to the scene.

The crash hospitalized nine people, including four firefighters, and closed the intersection for several hours. CSFD confirmed Engine 3 was totaled but assured response times would remain unaffected, with the Colorado Springs Police Department (CSPD) leading the investigation.
