Oando and a local community disagree over the results of an oil spill investigation. The spill occurred on 25 June along Oando’s six-inch Azuzuama-Tebidaba flow line in the Southern Ijaw Local Government Area of Bayelsa.

Three civil servants in Bayelsa were arrested for allegedly stealing N500m worth of equipment, including a 110 KVA Perkins generator, forklift, lathe machines, and electric filling machines. The stolen items are linked to a Premium Times Nigeria report.

The governor announced plans to replace the Bayelsa traditional ruler by establishing an electoral committee to elect a new paramount ruler within three months starting 30 June. The traditional ruler was dethroned due to insecurity concerns.

Bayelsa has 40 active mineral titles, including 12 for ilmenite and titanium mining, as Governor Douye Diri warns that unregulated black sand extraction could cause environmental damage and erosion, prompting calls for stricter mining regulations.

Police arrested suspected gun runners linked to the Delta extrajudicial killing case following weeks of intelligence-led operations in Bayelsa and Imo states. A Beretta pistol was recovered at a transport park in Effurun during these operations.
