Amite River Basin Commission

Ascension Parish and Louisiana legislators have enacted new funding legislation for watershed restoration and flood-risk reduction in the Amite River Basin, following the 2016 flood. The law allocates funds managed by the Coastal Protection and Restoration Authority and the Amite River Basin Commission, alongside land acquisitions for stormwater detention projects.

Ascension Parish and the Amite River Basin mark the 10th anniversary of the 2016 flood with new legislation creating a dedicated funding source for watershed restoration and flood-risk reduction projects. The legislation, signed by Gov. Jeff Landry, establishes the Watershed Restoration and Conservation Fund, managed by the Coastal Protection and Restoration Authority and distributed to the Amite River Basin Commission. Ascension Parish has also acquired land for stormwater detention basins to mitigate regional flood risks.
