- Democrats move to keep South Carolina as first state to vote in 2028 presidential primaries
Democrats moved to keep South Carolina as the first state in the 2028 presidential primary process to better represent the party’s racially diverse voter base. The move received a slim majority in the DNC's rules and bylaws committee and requires full DNC approval next month. South Carolina is scheduled for 22 January 2028, followed by Nevada, New Hampshire, New Mexico, Michigan, and Virginia.
